The new trilogy written in the old tradition of epic fantasy.

This omnibus edition includes the first three books in the Tormay series and is more than 750 pages of magic, mystery and adventure.

THE HAWK AND HIS BOY
Jute robbed the wrong house. He robbed the wrong wizard. And now the young thief is on the run for his life. Everyone wants to kill him. But he doesn't know why. What's even worse, he's about to find out. In a land of ancient curses and even older magic, nothing is as it seems. Jute befriends a talking hawk, a guilt-ridden assassin, and a strangely forgetful ghost. Maybe they can stay alive long enough to save themselves. And the entire land.

But they're about to discover the truth about evil. You can run as fast and as far as you can, but you can never escape the Dark.

THE SHADOW AT THE GATE
The servants of the Dark have infiltrated the city of Hearne in search of Jute. Desperate to escape, the boy flees the city and heads into the wilderness of the north. But the ghosts of the past have other plans for him and, soon, Jute and his friends must choose between their own deaths or the destruction of the entire land. All the while, the mysterious lady Levoreth races against time in order to discover who is behind the schemes of the Dark.

THE WICKED DAY
Jute and his companions track the kidnappers of the girl Giverny Farrow, but they soon discover the Dark is raising an army to destroy the realms of men. As the little group of friends journeys across the frozen mountains of the east, they fight shadows and sorcerous creatures as they seek the lost girl in the mysterious city of Ancalon. The land of Tormay teeters on the brink of war, and the duchies look to Jute as their last and best hope. But there is an ancient evil waking that even all the power of the wind cannot hope to defeat.

This would be a good set of books for a young reader, maybe 11 or 12 years old. Parts of the story are predictable, and the books would be great for teaching foreshadowing. There are few typographical errors! Finally, a writer who gave a care about grammar and mechanics! Very refreshing! There is a lot of wizardry (practically all male), some sword fighting, lots of bad guys, lots of good guys. These would be good books to use in teaching the difference between static and dynamic characters. A couple of orphans figure prominently in the story; one is the trilogy's main hero. The reader meets many characters; so it would be useful for students to make a list of names and short descriptions of characters, especially if this trilogy is a summer reading project. I was mostly satisfied with the ending but a little disappointed too. Overall, this trilogy is too good to be rated 3 but not good enough to be rated 4, which is a rating I would give to the Hunger Games books and _I Know Not: The Legend of Fox Crow_, both of which I would save for older and much older readers, respectively (well, Fox Crow gets 4.5). I am glad to have met and gotten to know the characters in these books and to have read their stories.

A Storm in Tormay The Complete Tormay Trilogy edition by Christopher Bunn Children eBooks Reviews

I loved everything about this book! You have to get to know all the characters and then it really takes off! This book has something going on all the time. If not with this character it's with a few of the others then when their life calms down the rest take over.
It was interesting to me to see how they become connected and all the changes that take place. So much happens it reminds me of how our own life can be (not as extreme of course) as to how it seems, "when it rains, it pours" type of thing. You can see and smell everything the author describes all the detail, it was just a great read! I loved all the twists and turns and even if you guess at some things it doesn't take anything away from it.
The ending was very well done but it was sad to see it come to an end. I so loved all the adventures they had taken. This is a book I can see myself reading again. I really think all who read this book will not be disappointed. I will be looking for more of his books!
Well written and edited. Great story that I was able to fall into. Unique spells and magic. Humour. Well formed and described characters and scenes. The plot and suspense unfolds casually but steadily builds where good triumphs over evil but yet the ending leaves us with rumours of what happened to most of the key parties. Also a feeling that things are not finished with certainty. Just like real life...
This was an enjoyable and entertaining read. The three books of this series reads more as three parts of a single novel and therefore I really recommend reading all three together. I will include below my reviews for each part of the Tormay Trilogy.

The Hawk And His Boy (The Tormay Trilogy #1)

Overall this was a good story and a decent read. The author was able to create a very rich world without going into overly-lengthy details. The book focuses on several different characters, each with his own story line, which keeps it interesting. The writing is well done with very minimal errors and flows nicely.

However, while this was an enjoyable read, the main plot unfolds slowly while several subplots are explored and the characters are not very deeply developed.

I do plan to read the rest of the trilogy and look forward to seeing how all of the characters collide.

The Shadow at the Gate (The Tormay Trilogy #2)

This was an excellent continuation of the first book. It was fast paced and well written. There were very interesting revelations about the characters and plot developments. I look forward to reading the final installment of the Tormay Trilogy.

The Wicked Day (The Tormay Trilogy #3) by Christopher Bunn

This was an entertaining read and overall a good story. There were some parts of the ending that were a little dissatisfying and the story is left open for future exploration but was still a very enjoyable read.
I have to admit, I almost didn't read the book yet I am so glad I didn't put it down. I fell in love with Levoreth at the beginning and was happy when I discovered who she was and then saddened on what happened to her, only to learn that Rolands sister had taken her place. It would be amazing to talk to wolves, squirrels, trees, rats, horses and all creatures on earth. I disliked Nio who was full of darkness and had a wihht in the basement. I guess things might not have turned out as Nio had hoped concerning the wihht. At first I did not like the Knife when he sent Jute into the house to steal a box, and you should know not to tell someone not to open the box, for that is what they will surely do. Jute discovered something magical in the box that changed who he would become. There were no hard feelings on what happened to the Juggler, the man who watched over the children or we could call them thieves that roamed the city stealing what they could. I thought the ghost and Severan were amazing. I wish I knew what happened to Roland, Farrow or the Knife, whoever we wish to call him, if only him and Liss (from the sea) could have gotten together. And who wouldn't love the hawk, yes I did cry close to the end of the book. Jute of all people to become the wind! Lol. This book is filled with action, humor, sadness, adventure and more. Christopher did an amazing story about war between good and evil. The darkness involves shadowhounds, the wihht, the Silverman, etc. I would recommend reading this book especially if you love a good adventure book filled with action.
